People in a body of water

Carolina Caycedo

La Parguera bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico, you visit and swim in it at night. The bay’s glowing effect is made possible by micro-organisms called dinoflagellates, which emit a short burst of light when the water is agitated.

We visited with my friend Lucia, and our kids Niko and Gigi. We didn’t think the kids would jump into the water at night, but the bioluminescence was so strong they felt safe. This memory is about water, oceans, the entities who inhabit the waters and the relations we make with them.
