Water poem (2025)
Twin lakes. To cool off was to submerge myself under water into a different place, my tie-dyed suit too bright for such a sunny day. A different place protected from within, making sunken circles with my body. Convex and concave, a pale algae light and a bright spot to guide me to the beginning again. The push and pull as my arms rotated. Three circles, the biggest being the inside. A place that felt familiar to trust holding my breath as I timed the exhale and inhale, bringing my face to the fluid surface. Yellow orb to mark the point. The strength of contracting my prone body and cycling my appendages as I aligned with own guidance, ”around and around, round”, to open in the center while holding the boundary. Hydrating my core by allowing the power to ready an embrace, for a moment a glowing fish, I belonged as a moving life form encapsulated in a dance. An escape from the world to another one within it, the rocks tucked under the mud made patterns looking different each time. When the curves completed and I could no longer continue, the beat did. Circulating I faced the open sky, we’re here.
